Raku Pottery Creatures
The Raku method of pottery glazing has been adopted in South Africa where it’s smoky, mysterious luster fits perfectly into the African sense of style. The glaze on the piece is unique and the crackling adds to the natural beauty of the piece. The studio is staffed by local people and has become a valuable job creation center in South Africa. Beaded Creations
All hand made, these creations are made from glass beads and galvanized wire. The large glass eyes add character to these whimsical critters. Zimbabweans are master wire workers, Ndebele and Zulu women are masters in bead work. Our beaded creatures are a blend of two cultures and traditional crafts. Though they are Contemporary in nature, many of the figures have rich African culture and historical significance. I will have an inventory of these pieces. Prices vary according to size and detail. Tin Sculptures
Beginning with sheets of tin and using only hammers, pliers and metal snips artists create these likenesses of some of Africa’s most popular wildlife. These sculptures are then carefully hand painted in beautiful contrasting colors in a style known as Weya, named for the people and area of eastern Zimbabwe. Prices vary according to size and detail. Exquisitely hand carved from non-endangered Jacaranda, munyunya, musororo or mukwa wood. These sculptures are one of a kind with unique marking and poses.
